Daith Piercing

Daith Ear Piercing is a recent addition to potential treatments for migraines. The piercing, which was first invented in 1992 as a cosmetic piercing. Soon, people begain to report that their migraines had improved, and 5 years ago it went viral on social media after Dr Thomas Cohn, a respected pain doctor in the USA, mentioned it on his blog. Since then thousands of people have had it done. The piercing passes through the cartilage of a part of the ear innervated by the Vagus Nerve, and electrical stimulation of this nerve is already a recognised treatment for both migrines and epilepsy.

Although their effects are not yet proven there is increasing evidence that it can help with migraines. Dr Chris Blatchley has been researching Daith Piercing for over 4 years. It is not a magic cure, and does not help everybody. However his research suggests that up to 40% of people report that itis still working very well after 12 months. There are still many unanswered questions, and more research is needed

Several years ago as part of his initial research, Chris started an online survey for people who have already had a Daith Ear Piercing for Migraines.
